1st Brigade joining bushfire operations

Major elements of the Australian Army’s 1st Brigade are mobilising to assist on Operation Bushfire Assist 19-20.

A statement from 1st Brigade this evening said their people were preparing to assist communities affected by the devastating bushfires in Victoria and NSW.

“7th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment’s Ready Combat Team personnel departed Adelaide this morning to integrate with local authorities, volunteer agencies, and other ADF men and women already on the ground,” the statement said.

“Darwin-based personnel from 1st Combat Engineer Regiment, 1st Combat Signal Regiment and 1st Close Health Battalion will follow within the next 24 hrs.

“They are ready to support evacuation efforts, emergency service reporting networks, as well as medical, engineering and transport capabilities.”

The Australian Army’s 1st Brigade is a regular-Army formation based in Darwin and Adelaide.

This movement is in addition to the 3000 reserves being mobilised in Australia’s first-ever Reserves Call Out.
