Ukraine’s war-affected animal population remembered

In a ceremony at the Ukrainian Embassy in Canberra on Friday 29 July, President of Australian War Animal Memorial Organisation Nigel Allsopp presented Ambassador Myroshnychenko Vasyl with a bronze plaque and medallion honouring the animal heroes of the Ukraine war.

CAPTION: Ukraine’s Ambassador to Australian Myroshnychenko Vasyl receives a plaque and medallion honouring Ukraine’s war-affected animal population from Australian War Animals Memorial Organisation president Nigel Allsopp. Photos supplied.

The plaque and medallion will be dispatched to the Prime Minister of Ukraine for eventual display at a future animal memorial.

There are thought to be hundreds of thousands of pets suffering from abandonment or dispossession alongside their owners in Ukraine.

Australian War Animals Memorial Organisation (AWAMO), in partnership with PETstock is helping to facilitate a delivery of more than $500,000 of essential pet-care supplies to animals impacted by the war.

This shipment is already bound for Poland by sea from where it will be dispatched to warehouses along the Polish border and within Ukraine.

AWAMO staff, along with its charity partner in Ukraine UPAWS, will be delivering supplies to the most affected areas or animals in need.

While awaiting the shipment to arrive AWAMO has already dispatched funds to the Bear Sanctuary Domazhyr in Lviv which provides a species-appropriate home and lifelong care to brown bears abused as baiting bears.

There are also believed to be more than 100,000 horses in Ukraine, many of which are caught up in war zones with no possibility to flee or seek shelter or care.

Having money in hand for urgent needs can make the difference between life and death, so AWAMO has
provided funds for feed and supplies for horses most at risk during this horrific war, via a USA charity Fleet of Angles.
