Twins serve together for first time
Identical twins, Air Force’s personnel capability specialist Sergeant Ron Koenig and supply Sergeant Greg Koenig, are for the first time serving together at RAAF Base Amberley since joining the ADF 26 years ago.

The brothers first joined the Army but Sergeant Ron Koenig decided to transfer to Air Force in 2001, with Sergeant Greg Koenig soon following in 2003.
They are now serving in their second local postings with No. 295 Squadron and Heavy Air Lift Systems Program Office, respectively.
Sergeant Greg Koenig said even during Army recruit training in 1995, they were separated and weren’t in the same platoon.
“We were only in Kapooka together for three weeks of a course overlap,” Sergeant Greg Koenig said.
“During our whole time in the Army, we didn’t have an opportunity to be posted to the same barracks, however we did deploy to East Timor with our individual units between 1999 and 2000, Ron with the 5th/7th Battalion and I was with 10th Force Support Battalion.”
Sergeant Ron Koenig said his career in the Air Force was enriching.
“One of my fondest memories is when I was awarded a silver commendation and my unit invited my family to the presentation. They also had the opportunity to view a C-17A Globemaster aircraft,” Sergeant Ron Koenig said.
“Personnel capability specialists aren’t often in the spotlight but we play a very important role.
“My enlistment date of March 7 is also a very special, as last year my son was born on my 25th anniversary of service.”
Sergeant Greg Koenig’s time in supply has seen him post to many positions across Australia, as well as deploy numerous times to the Middle East region.
“I have been lucky with a variety of postings, which has allowed me to further enhance my logistic knowledge,” Sergeant Greg Koenig said.
“There have been many highlights too, but the most recent standout was a deployment to Qatar in 2020.
“I worked with an incredible group of people, through a very trying and changing world when COVID-19 hit. I was lucky enough to establish some amazing friendships with members from militaries all around the world.”
