Darren Chester sacked from Vet Affairs/Defence Personnel

Darren Chester has been sacked from his ministerial positions in Barnaby Joyces’ reshuffle.

Mr Chester was Minister for Veterans’ Affairs and Minister for Defence Personnel since 2018.

He was appointed to the positions by then-prime minister Malcolm Turnbull with the portfolios upgraded to Cabinet status by Scott Morrison.

Mr Chester was a vocal supporter of former Nationals leader Michael McCormack, who also held the veterans’ portfolio for a short time before becoming leader.

Mr Chester’s position became untenable when Mr McCormack was ousted by Mr Joyce last week.

The new Minister for Veterans’ Affairs and Minister for Defence Personnel is Andrew Gee, former Minister for Decentralisation and Regional Education.
