Soldier On CEO Ivan Slavich said the partnership would provide veterans and their families with opportunities to upskill and retrain via an innovative digital-learning platform.

“Soldier On is the first Australian partner of the SkillsBuild platform and we’re honoured to celebrate its launch this morning with members of the defence community, IBM and Prime Minister Scott Morrison,” Mr Slavich said.

“We look forward to growing this innovative partnership which will enable our veterans and their families to thrive.”

Prime Minister Morrison said Soldier On was an important partner for the government on really exciting projects such as this.

“One of the most interesting challenges – which is a positive one – is [this partnership] that is part of the Veterans Employment Programme, connecting veterans to workplaces, to jobs, and that requires the skills and the skills investment that has been made here by IBM to ensure that we can equip today’s veterans to be successful in a digital economy,” Mr Morrison said.

“It’s great for them. It’s great for IBM. It’s great for the Australian economy. It’s great for jobs.

“COVID or no COVID, the challenge is the same – that of equipping our veterans with skills – and digital skills are absolutely central for all of us to be successful in the decade ahead.

“That’s who I’m working with – people who want to create jobs – and Soldier On and IBM are certainly doing that.

“I always stress just how amazing veterans are and what an asset veterans are to Australia in their own right, but particularly when it comes to the contributions they can make in businesses all around the country, running businesses, recruiting others.

“I’m pleased to say the services and supports that are available to veterans, and particularly through organisations like Soldier On and the corporate support that is provided today, is so different to what many vets went through in the past.”
