New Zealand’s new Chief of Defence Force

New Zealand has a new Chief of Defence Force after a formal Change of Command ceremony yesterday at Pukeahu National War Memorial Park.

Outgoing Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant General Tim Keating was farewelled with a Guard of Honour, followed by a wreath-laying at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior.

Dame Sian Elias, in her capacity as the Administrator of the Government, presided over the promotion and presentation of the warrant of appointment to incoming Chief of Defence Force Air Marshal Kevin Short.

Air Marshal Short then received a pōwhiri and welcome parade and took part in the daily Last Post ceremony.

Attendees included Minister of Defence and Veterans Ron Mark, Secretary of Defence Helene Quilter, and Vice Admiral David Johnston representing the Australian Defence Force.

Australia will hold its change-of-command ceremony tomorrow.
