Five Singaporean Chinnok helicopters are normally based at Oakey, Queensland, for pilot training.

An RSAF statement said, “Our Chinooks from Oakey Detachment, together with 42 of our airmen and women are currently deployed at the Royal Australian Air Force Base East Sale in Victoria, Australia”.

“The team is working closely alongside our close friends from the Australian Defence Force (ADF) to help in the bushfire relief efforts.”

Today, the Chinooks carried at least one contingent of Australian Army medics, a load of firefighters and a separate load of Victoria Police officers on ferry flights from East Sale to various parts.

The Australian Army gave a Facebook shout-out to their partners the New Zealand Defence Force and the Singapore Armed Forces for their assistance.

“With this additional capability – three NH90s from NZ and two CH-47 Chinooks from Singapore – the ADF is able to provide greater support to the fire-affected communities.

“Thank you to both forces for supporting us and the communities of Australia.”

One Australian Army MRH-90 Taipan, two S-70A Black Hawk and four CH-47F Chinook helicopters are already based at RAAF Base East Sale, which has become a very busy air-operations hub for Operation Bushfire Assist.
