HMAS Adelaide will join bushfire evacuations

The Royal Australian Navy’s largest and most capable amphibious ship, HMAS Adelaide, will depart Sydney this afternoon to assist in the combined bushfire efforts in the south east.

HMAS Adelaide will join HMAS Choules and MV Sycamore for tasking across the affected regions.

Commanding Officer HMAS Adelaide Captain Johnathon Ley and his crew are preparing for a 4pm departure from Garden Island this afternoon.

 

Meanwhile, because of the bushfire crisis, Defence has opened bases from Brisbane to Adelaide for the use of people needing short-term evacuation assistance.

In an emergency, you can seek shelter at any Defence base.
