Four projects receive boost from govt grants

The Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Dan Tehan, today announced four projects will share in more than $67,000 to commemorate Australia’s wartime heritage.

The funding was provided under the Major Commemorative Grants category of the Saluting Their Serviceprogram to projects in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and the Australian Capital Territory.

The Surfers Paradise RSL Sub-branch will receive $24,212 to complete Stage 3 of the Queensland Korean War Memorial.

The Australian Flying Corps (AFC) and Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Association National Council in Victoria was awarded $10,455 to publish a book on the AFC in the First World War.

The National Boer War Memorial Association in the ACT will receive $11,321 to hold a dedication ceremony in May 2017.

The Jewish National Fund of Australia Inc in NSW was awarded $21,750 towards an exhibition at the Sydney Jewish Museum to commemorate the centenary of the Australian Light Horse involvement in the Battle of Beersheba.

“These projects will honour the service and sacrifice of our nation’s servicemen and women as we commemorate the Anzac Centenary period from 2014 to 2018,” Mr Tehan said.

“As a nation it is important we reflect on Australia’s wartime experiences and how they have shaped our nation.”

A list of the projects awarded funding in this round of grants is attached.
