HMAS Parramatta departs for a regional presence deployment

HMAS Parramatta has sailed from her home port of Fleet Base East for a two-month Regional Presence Deployment to Southeast and North Asia.

The ship will undertake a number of Navy-to-Navy activities with Australia’s regional partners, building on the work of HMAS Arunta which deployed to the Indo-Pacific region previously this year.

Commanding Officer HMAS Parramatta, Commander David Murphy, said his ship’s company was ready for the tasks the ship would be assigned over the next couple of months.

“We know that the tempo of this deployment is going to be very high so the training we have conducted up to this point has been intense,” Commander Murphy said.

“This includes the full gamut of readiness and evaluation training programs that our ships go through in order to prove their capability for the upcoming deployment.

“I’m confident that my ship’s company is ready for the task and we look forward to putting our training into practice while undertaking this deployment.”

Commander Murphy said he looked forward to working with Australia’s regional maritime partners over the next couple of months.

“Through the various upcoming engagements, we will aim to increase our interoperability with regional partners and build on the strong relationship that already exist between Australia and other like-minded nations in the region,” Commander Murphy said.

HMAS Parramatta will return home to Fleet Base East at the end of July.
