Member-only web areas being implemented (finally)

Way back in January 2016, I announced that CONTACT would begin to implement member-only areas on the CONTACT web site.

That obviously took me a lot longer than anticipated, but I finally got to grips with the technology and the mindset* required to actually begin.

As of today, you will find that the CONTACT Magazine Archives page (in the main menu above) is now restricted to members of the CONTACT Patron Army.

What you will notice when you come across a ‘locked’ page – such as Archives – is a statement to the effect, ‘This page is for members of the CONTACT Patron Army only’ – and an orange button to ‘UNLOCK WITH PATREON’.

If you are already a member of the CONTACT Patron Army, you only have to ‘unlock’ once – our web site will remember you in future, and all the web site will be fully available to you as if nothing was restricted (at least I think that’s how it works – standing by for confirmation…)

If you are not a member of the CONTACT Patron Army, you will only be able to access locked pages by joining up.

In the case of Archives, if you are not a member of the CONTACT Patron Army, you will still be able to find the latest issue of CONTACT prominently displayed and readable on our homepage – and, you will still be able to find our archived magazines here, on our external page-flip host (and you can ‘follow’ that page for future notifications). We’re not hiding them from you completely.

The CONTACT Magazine Archives is the first page to become ‘members only’.

There will be others over time.

So, to maintain full access to our web site, please consider becoming a member of the CONTACT Patron Army (if you aren’t already).

The size of your joining fee is completely voluntary, starting as a CONTACT Private for just US$2 per month – all the way up through the ranks to Chief of the General Staff (who will pay US$800/month, and get a blitzkrieg of advertising benefits across our portfolio).

AND – if enough individuals and advertisers** join our Army, we pledge to start printing CONTACT for sale in newsagents again.

AND – AND – all CONTACT Corporals and above will get the printed magazine free!

.

I’m happy to receive your thoughts on this announcement via editor@militarycontact.com or in comments below.

Sincerely,
Brian Hartigan

*The mindset part of all this was sort of a reverse-psychology scenario. You see, I launched the CONTACT Patron Army before Christmas 2017 – and some very generous people actually joined. And I was gobsmacked. But then I began to worry that, aside from a few trinkets I sent them, I wasn’t delivering enough value to those people. So, the impetus to figure out the previously announced member-only side of the CONTACT web site grew and grew. And then Patreon released an app that made it possible. So here we go.
