Royal Australian Navy sailor crowned “Australian Fishing Champion”

Petty Officer Liam Carruthers, a qualified aircrewman instructor at 725 Squadron, recently competed in the Australian Fishing Championships in Mackay.

Back in 2015 Petty Officer Carruthers took out the Australian Bream Championship which gained him automatic qualification to the Australian Fishing Championships final.

However, because of operational deployments and postings he was unable to compete in 2016.

But, organisers graciously held over his entry to accommodate his service commitments.

And, this year, paired with Dean Silvestor, the pair were crowned 2017 Australian Fishing Champions.

Petty Officer Carruthers is looking forward to defending the title in 2018.
