Thanks for the reminder of the Japanese escort from Albany at the opening of WW1: as you say, little-known – or appreciated.

Much later, Australian troops returned the gesture in Iraq where Aussie forces provided the security for Japanese Self Defence Force personnel posted to build hospitals and schools but unable, under their constitution, to become involved in war-like activities.
