Malaya-Borneo Veterans commemorate in Sarawak

A Service of Commemoration was held in the Sarawak Heroes Memorial Park in Kuching on Saturday 29 August to commemorate the 59th anniversary of the end of the Malayan Emergency (1948-1960) and the 53rd Anniversary of the Cease Fire and Declaration of the End of the Indonesian Confrontation in 1966.

Group Captain Simon Hindmarsh (RAF), British Defence Adviser to Malaysia, placed a wreath at a newly unveiled plaque installed by the Malaya and Borneo Veterans Association (UK) honouring the service and sacrifice of Commonwealth military and police personnel in the Indonesian Confrontation with Malaysia.

Members of the SA/NT Branch of the National Malaya Borneo Veterans Association of Australia travelled to Kuching, Sarawak in Malaysia to commemorate the anniversary.

The group participated in several official, ceremonial and cultural activities.

The main commemorative event was held at The Heroes’ Cemetery in Kuching.

Before travelling overseas, the SA/NT Branch of the National Malaya-Borneo Veterans Association of Australia held its annual commemoration ceremony a week early, to facilitate their special pilgrimage.
