The magic of Glendalough County Wicklow

Glendalough in Co Wicklow is a truly mystical place, the atmosphere around the ancient graves, monastery and round tower only enhanced by damp forests of moss-covered trees and boulders.

Glendalough is a quintessential Irish tourist attraction, not only for overseas visitors, but Irish people too.

We went there on several memorable family outings when I was a wee one.

And going back as an adult certainly didn’t disappoint – especially on a sunny day and armed with a video camera and drone.

    Hi Brian,

My name is Tommy Mc Quaid and I have just seen your article about Glendalough from April 2018. I am an ex Irish PDF member having served in the Army and Air Corps. When I was serving in the Irish Air Corps I often flew over Glendalough and after 30 years the wallpaper on my laptop / PC is still a photo I took of Glendalough from the air. It is a magical place and at 61 last year (2020) due to the pandemic was the first year in my memory I didn’t get ther for a hillwalk. I live in a town called Trim which has a medieval Castle where the film Braveheart was partially filmed in 1994. I am a fan of your ADF Contact magazine for many years now but it was Glendalough that got me to make my first email to you. Keep up the good work please

    Yours in Soldering
