Operation Flood Assist 2023-1
The Australian Defence Force is providing assistance to the Western Australian government in the Kimberley region where heavy rainfall from Ex-Tropical Cyclone Ellie has isolated communities.

At the request of National Emergency Management Australia (NEMA), Defence is providing transport aircraft to assist in the evacuation of flood-affected residents.
Defence continues to work closely with NEMA in monitoring disasters affecting the community.
However, flying is subject to change, including short-notice cancellation, due to variables such as air traffic control requirements, weather and flood levels.
Landing at some outlying airfields has not been possible in the early stages of the emergency, because of flood damage to runway surfaces and/or persistent floodwaters.

After watching footage of Broome airport, I wondered if there was any defence air assets left on the East coast, this was a bit different for us, after 30 years in the North West seeing towns, roads bridges affected by cyclones we only had the privilege of a RAAF Caribo parked up at Karratha.
Interesting to see Black Hawk helo used for firefighting duty yesterday East of Adelaide.
