DA40 Pilot Profile – Cadet Corporal Kiera Galan

Cadet Corporal Kiera Galan of No 429 Squadron, Queenscliff, Victoria, is the latest Air Force Cadet to fly solo in the new Diamond DA40 NG light aircraft.

Kiera was one of 10 Air Force Cadets who attended a flying training course at the Elementary Flying Training School at RAAF Base Point Cook during the April school holidays this year.

Cadet Corporal Galan recorded her impressions of the EFTS flying training course for Flight Sergeant (AAFC) Kate Heussler, National Social Media Coordinator at HQ AAFC:

Since the beginning of the EFTS course, my highlight has been making new friends as well as being in the first course to fly the brand new Diamond DA40NG.

In the future, I aspire to join the Royal Australian Air Force as a pilot. This interest began in 2017 when I first joined the Australian Air Force Cadets.”

The DA40 NG features modern avionics and a turbocharged jet-fuel piston engine, with contemporary navigation and flight control systems. The leasing of these aircraft is intended to inspire young Australians like Kiera to pursue a career in aviation.

To her fellow cadets, Corporal Galan heartily recommends pursuing an aviation pathway through the training offered by the Elementary Flying Training School and Aviation Operations Wing of the AAFC.

The advice I would give to cadets wanting to fly with EFTS – there are going to be hard times, and times where you are going to feel you are going to give up, but I want you to push through and try and try again.

Believe in yourself – that you can do it – because you can.

Never give up on your dreams.

The Australian Air Force Cadets is an air-minded youth development organisation set in a military and aviation environment, administered and actively supported by the RAAF. Aviation Operations Wing has the aim of delivering flying pathways through gliding and powered flying experiences and training.
