Prize-winning veteran art auction

2RAR Historical Collection Fundraising – ONLINE FACEBOOK AUCTION 2019 – Framed, Limited, Artist-Signed Print Auction.

This print is signed by the artist, Rob Douma and the subject, Sergeant Robert Althofer.

The original artwork won 1st Prize in the Australian War Memorial’s 2018 Napier Waller Art Prize.

2RAR Historical Collection has received a very generous donation, that is the subject of this online auction, from Robert Douma, a former 2RAR soldier and degree-qualified artist.

Robert is also proprietor of the Townsville tattoo studio ‘Death Proof Tattoos’.

This limited artist-signed print is from his entry in the inaugural Napier Waller Art Prize run by the Australian War Memorial – which won 1st Prize.

The Napier Waller Art Prize program aims to promote artistic excellence and the healing potential of art, while raising a broader awareness of the military experience and the impact of service on the individual. This prize is the only one offered to former and current Defence personnel at a national level. In its inaugural year, the 2018 Napier Waller Art Prize attracted more than 100 entries. The success and interest in the prize has set a positive course for the Memorial to continue celebrating artistic excellence, providing a platform for people who have served to communicate their experiences.”

The print was professionally framed by Geoff and Jody from ‘Top Frames’ in Townsville.

Called Green on Blue: The betrayal of trust, the original artwork is charcoal on paper – more details here.

Volunteers have served all along 2 RAR (Amphib)’s time line, including the time when it was linked to form, 2/4 RAR. Volunteers range in age from their 30’s to their late 80’s, they have served in places such as Korea, Malaya, South Vietnam, Somalia, Rwanda, East Timor, Iraq, Afghanistan and Timor Leste.
