Australian soldier dies on exercise in Puckapunyal

The Department of Defence today said in a statement that, “an Australian Army soldier died yesterday morning at the Puckapunyal Military Training Area, Victoria”.

“The soldier collapsed during a routine training activity and CPR was performed prior to the Victorian Ambulance service arriving on scene.

“Defence has notified the soldier’s family and is providing support to them during this difficult time.

“The death of an Australian Army member, regardless of the circumstances, is a tragedy and deeply felt by the Army family and the broader Defence organisation.

“Defence is assisting the state authorities to determine the cause of death. It would be inappropriate to provide further comment.

“Due to the Privacy Act 1988, Defence cannot provide details of current or former members without consent.”
