ADFA Open Day 2017 – 26 August

Australia’s pre-eminent tri-service military training institution, the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA), will once again open its doors to prospective students and the local community on Saturday 26 August 2017.

Held annually on the last Saturday in August, ADFA’s Open Day provides the opportunity for secondary school students and their families to gain an insight into life as a Midshipman or Officer Cadet at the Academy as well as the military training and academic programs on offer.

The Commandant of ADFA, Brigadier Cheryl Pearce, said the Open Day is an excellent opportunity for students to discover what their future may hold if they’re equipped with a world-class degree as a member of the Australian Defence Force.

“This occasion offers potential applicants and their families a chance to have their questions answered about study and life at the Academy,” Brigadier Pearce said.

“Representatives of the Royal Australian Navy, Australian Army and Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) will also be on-hand to discuss the different avenues that may be open to explore once they have graduated from ADFA.”

The Open Day is not only open to those thinking of a career in the military and studying through ADFA. The public can also use this opportunity to see many of the daily activities undertaken by  trainee officers and the facilities used to provide the education and training of the ADF’s future leaders.

Those who attend the ADFA Open Day are also able to learn more about the array of university degrees available through the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Canberra, located at ADFA.

The Rector of UNSW Canberra, Professor Michael Frater, said the university has proudly partnered with the Australian Defence Force for 50 years, and provided world-class degrees to its future leaders.

“Our graduates shape Australia, the region and the international community as leaders in defence, government, and industry,” Professor Frater said.

“The high quality of graduates is reflected by the small student to teacher ratios, excellence in research and teaching and currency of programs offered to UNSW Canberra students.”

There will be a wide range of displays from the Navy, Army and RAAF that reflect career opportunities within the Defence Force. Displays include Navy clearance divers and helicopters, the Red Berets, Army military vehicle displays, and a spectacular RAAF Roulettes display, as well as presentations on careers within the ADF.
